Contest Overview.

B-SCAN, a women-led organisation of Persons with Disabilities, is proud to launch an innovation competition to revolutionize menstrual hygiene for women with severe disabilities.

This competition is being conducted in collaboration with WaterAid Bangladesh, a leading international nonprofit organisation dedicated to improving water, sanitation, and hygiene conditions in developing countries with the assistance of Kimberly Clark.

This initiative seeks creative, accessible, and sustainable solutions in sanitary napkin production.

We invite youth innovators, product designers, engineers, students, startups, and disability advocates to participate and bring smiles and comfort to these groups.

Why is your participation crucial?.

The competition is dedicated to developing intuitive, comfortable, affordable, and widely accessible sanitary solutions tailored for women with severe disabilities, including wheelchair users, women with visual disability, and individuals with cerebral palsy and others.

The winning groups will receive prize money to incubate their propositions, with guidance from WaterAid Bangladesh and B-SCAN, to develop and promote their commodities.

Key Design Preferences.

For Developing Innovative Sanitary Products for Women with Disabilities

Participation Criteria.

  • Each participating group must consist of 4 members, including at least 1 female.
  • Groups including women with disabilities will be given preference.

Selection Process.

Round 1.

Registration & Primary Selection
(10 April 2025 – 23 April 2025)

A Jury panel of disability rights advocates, menstrual health professionals, gynecologists, healthcare experts, and marketing specialists will shortlist the top 15 ideas based on their feasibility, innovation, and potential impact on the target audience.

Round 2.

Pitching Ideas & Top 5 Selection
(24 April 2025 – 4 May 2025)

A daylong pitch session will be organized, during which the primary 15 groups will present their ideas to the jury. The top 5 ideas will be promoted for the final round session through the pitch delivery session.

Final Round.

The Pinnacle of the Competition
(5 May 2025 – 28 May 2025)

• The Top 5 groups from the pitch session will be eligible to develop prototypes to get the assessment of the function & accessibility by a panel of women with disabilities.

• A half-day final round workshop will be conducted for final modifications and improvements. This workshop will provide a platform for the finalists to receive feedback from the jury panel and make necessary adjustments to their prototypes.

All 5 finalist groups will receive special recognition for their efforts and contributions to accessible menstrual solutions.

The top 3 winners will be awarded prizes during the Menstrual Hygiene Day 2025 event.
